The short version

myTape does not collect, store on our servers, sell, share or track any personal data. There is no account, no advertising and no analytics of its own. The only third-party component is Google’s Cast software, which is used only if you use the Cast button (see below). Your audio files, playlists and settings stay on your iPhone.

What stays on your device

• The audio files you import, their cover art and lyrics, your playlists, your play queue, play counts, the styles and languages you set for songs, and your settings are stored only inside the app on your iPhone. We never receive them.
• If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. Imported songs are not included in iCloud backups.
• Song suggestions (“similar songs”, collections) are calculated on your iPhone from information stored with your own songs. No data leaves the device for this.

Network connections the app makes

The app has no server of its own and contacts no server of ours. It connects to the network only when you ask it to:

1. Importing from a link. If you paste a direct link to an audio file and tap Import, the app requests that file from the web address you entered. That website’s operator will see the usual technical information of any download (your IP address, the time, and the app’s name and version as the user-agent). The app sends no cookies, no account information and nothing else about you. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policy.
2. Syncing from your own computer or server (optional). If you pair a computer or a server that you run yourself, the app talks to the address you entered or scanned to list and copy the songs, cover art, lyrics and song details in your library there. The app stores that address and its access token on your iPhone (in the iOS Keychain). The app only reads from it; it uploads nothing. iOS asks for the Local Network permission the first time you pair a computer on your home network; you can switch it off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network without affecting the rest of the app.
3. Casting to a Chromecast or other Cast device (optional). If you tap the Cast button, the app uses Google’s Cast software (the Google Cast SDK) to find Cast receivers on your local network, and while you cast it serves the audio file and cover that is playing to the receiver over your local network through a temporary address that only exists during the session. The receiver shows the title, artist and cover of the current audio file. Google’s Cast software also contacts Google servers (for example to look up your public IP address and to fetch its own settings), so Google can receive technical information such as your IP address, a device identifier and diagnostic data. The app does not send your audio files, playlists or library to Google, and the app’s own analytics are off. Do not tap the Cast button if you do not want this. The Cast software is not started until the first time the player’s Cast button is shown.

Permissions

• Local Network — for the optional sync and for finding Cast devices.
• Background audio — so music keeps playing when the screen is locked.
• The app does not use your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, health data or advertising identifier, and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
